KITTITAS AND YAKIMA COUNTY โ€“ The National Weather Service warns of an atmospheric river bringing heavy rainfall along the Cascades this week. This rain will lead to increases in area rivers, which are expected to reach minor and moderate flood stages.

Many rivers will peak between today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday), with some, like the Yakima River at Kiona, peaking through Saturday.

Flooding is anticipated in Yakima and Kittitas Counties, particularly near rivers.

Swift-moving, cold floodwaters can erode banks and may cause debris in roads and bridges. Drivers should practice safe habits when encountering flooded roads and heed warning about the dangers of fast-moving water, as even small amounts can sweep away people and vehicles.
