HERMISTON – Only months after it opened, the Aspen Springs Psychiatric Hospital in Hermiston is closing. The closure will take effect at midnight Thursday April 8. Lifeways, Inc. said the closure is necessary because of COVID-19 and the healthcare worker shortage especially in rural areas, especially for rural-level licensure and credentialing.
Since it opened in September 2020, Aspen Springs has served more than 75 people from throughout Oregon, transitioning them back to their homes and communities.
“Lifeways continues to work with Oregon Health Authority in pursuit of an alternative level of care for Aspen Springs that is more aligned with healthcare worker availability, and we will continue our effective partnerships in the community to align Aspen Springs with the needs of the communities,” a news release from Lifeways states.
Any former Aspen Springs Hospital patients may obtain their records by contacting Julie Hyslop, Medical Records Supervisor, Lifeways, Inc., 702 Sunset Drive, Ontario, OR 97914.
