BEND – Bend Fire and Rescue responded to a garage fire on River Bend Drive at 11:36 a.m. Friday. The fire was located on the back of the garage and spreading towards the home, but the occupant had safely evacuated with her dog.
Fire crews quickly controlled the fire, resulting in minimal damage to the home and moderate damage to the garage, while a lean-to attached to the garage was completely lost.
The fire was caused by ashes from a previous burn placed in a plastic bag near the structure. Bend Fire and Rescue advises using a metal container for ashes and keeping it outdoors on a non-combustible surface for safety.
