GSCO conducts multiple arrests, including Texas fugitive

GRANT COUNTY – The following is a press release from Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley:

In the course of the last two days, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office staff arrested three different individuals in the John Day area for various crimes. 

During the early hours of Wednesday, the 28th, Olle Starnes, 52, of John Day was arrested on charges of trespass and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. He was located in a outbuilding on the property he was arrested at. 

Later that afternoon, Scott Lee, 29, of John Day was arrested on an outstanding probation warrant issued out of Grant County. He was located in the 670 West Main area. 

On Thursday morning, the 29th, The U.S. Marshal Task Force contacted the Grant County Emergency Communication Center to advise a Texas fugitive was in John Day at a local motel. 

Jacob Boots Luce, 29, of Crockett Texas, was arrested by Grant County Deputies on several federal warrants for promotion of child pornography. 

Luce had been hiding out at the Budget Eight in John Day for the last week and had been on the run from authorities for over two months. This was in close proximity to the bus hub at the bowling alley where children congregate. 

Luce will be extradited back to Texas to face the charges. There are no local charges or victims that are known of at this time. 

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that if you see something that is suspicious, please report it. Whether it is something that action can be taken on or not, it will be documented should something come of it in the future.
