LA GRANDE – Wednesday Union County Sheriff’s Office received a report of someone dumping garbage on the side of Foot Hill Road. Deputies responded and located the suspect vehicle leaving the area. The suspect vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed shortly later skidding into a parking spot near Sixteenth Street. The suspect, later identified as William Dayton III, fled the area on foot and was quickly apprehended by Deputies.
Upon further investigation Dayton was found to be in possession of an ATV that had been reported stolen from a resident of North Powder last Saturday. Deputies loaded the ATV and returned it to the owner in North Powder.
Dayton was arrested and booked in to Union County Jail on charges of Reckless Driving, Attempt to Elude Vehicle, Attempt to Elude on Foot, and Theft by Receiving.
