Arrest made after verbal argument and a gun drawn at Max Square in La Grande

LA GRANDE – La Grande Police Department Officers assisted by the Oregon State Police and Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to Max Square in La Grande at 12:30AM, Wednesday May 18, for a report of kids with a gun.  

During the investigations, officers learned that Tyrus Riness (18) of La Grande was with three juveniles when they got into a verbal argument with a citizen who was sitting in Max Square.  Riness then pulled from his clothing a loaded revolver and pointed it at the citizen while demanding he turnover his beer to them.  The citizen refused and the Riness and the three juveniles left the area.  

Officers were able to catch up to Riness immediately after the incident.  Riness was cooperative and turned over the loaded firearm to the investigators.  

Riness was arrested and booked into the Union County Jail on charges of Menacing, Pointing a Firearm at Another, Robbery I, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Unlawful Use of a Weapon

This case is still under investigation and more charges may be forthcoming.
