BAKER COUNTY — The driver of an armored truck had to be airlifted after a crash in Baker County.
Oregon State Police say a Loomis armored truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 26 on Tuesday, May 28 when it crashed about 13 miles northwest of Unity. Troopers say the truck failed to negotiate a left-handed corner and overturned.
The truck hit multiple trees, with one tree landing on the highway and blocked both lanes.
The passenger of the truck was transported to Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day while the driver had to be extracted from the vehicle then was transported via helicopter to St. Charles Hospital in Bend.
Loomis arranged for armed guards to retrieve the contents of the vehicle and organized their own tow. OSP says two personal pistols were also seized by OSP in John Day for safekeeping, with all other gear/belongings being released to Loomis management on scene.
The condition of the driver has not been released, but both he and the passenger are from Boise.
