WALLA WALLA – Two teenagers arrested Feb. 17 in connection to an armed robbery on the 400 block of Sprague Avenue in Walla Walla entered not guilty pleas at their arraignment Monday in Walla Walla County Superior Court. Trial dates were also set.
Ivan Gonzalez Cavares and Antonio Luis Corona, both 18 and from Walla Walla, are each charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and first-degree robbery with a deadly weapon. They were arrested after allegedly entering a 41-year-old man’s home and demanded items of value. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. The victim, who reportedly knew the suspects, armed himself with household items and the two suspects ran out of the house.
When the two suspects got to the front yard, the one armed with the firearm turned around and fired two shots towards the house. The victim was not struck. Both suspects fled the scene in a vehicle which was later located in the Walla Walla High School parking lot. Gonzalez Cavares was taken into custody a short distance away from the school grounds. Corona was taken into custody on campus while taking part in normal school activities.
Gonzales Cavares’ trial begins April 18. Corona’s trial begins May 22.
