OLYMPIA – Richland florist Barronelle Stutzman, owner of Arlene’s Flowers, has sent Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s office a check to cover a court assessed penalty and court-ordered legal fees for violating Washington’s Law Against Discrimination.
On Monday, Ferguson tweeted that Stutzman sent his office a $1,001 check.
“Despite her repeated false claims that our lawsuit threatened to bankrupt her, this is everything she owes the state, and concludes our landmark legal victory for LGTBQ plus civil rights,” Ferguson said.
In July, the U.S. Supreme Court denied review of the state’s lawsuit against Stutzman for violating Washington’s Consumer Protection Act and the anti-discrimination law by refusing to serve a same-sex couple seeking to buy wedding flowers in 2013.
