PENDLETON – The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from this afternoon (Wednesday) through Saturday evening for a wide area of Oregon and Washington. Highs are expected to range from 102 to 108 degrees.
The warning includes the cities of Pendleton, Hermiston, Boardman, Arlington, The Dalles, Ione, Pilot Rock, Heppner, Condon, Fossil, and Dufur in Oregon. Washington locations include Ellensburg, Sunnyside, Toppenish, Yakima, Connell, Prosser, the Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, Dayton, Waitsburg and Goldendale.
People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Staying in an air conditioned room is advised if possible.
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has declared a state of emergency due to the heat wave that’s traveling across the state. The declaration allows state agencies to assist local and tribal jurisdictions in providing for the health and safety of their residents.
