April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month

BAKER & WALLOWA COUNTIES – (Release from Building Healthy Families) Wallowa and Baker Counties will be recognizing National Child Abuse Awareness Month in April. Businesses, organizations, schools and churches will be displaying pinwheel gardens, pinwheel vases and posters. The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention. The pinwheel reflects the bright future all children deserve. Building Healthy Families has partnered with Helping Hearts, Protect Our Children, and CASA of Eastern Oregon to coordinate the annual awareness/prevention campaign.

In recognition of Child Abuse Awareness, partners encourage everyone to participate in Dress-Up Week April 14th – 17th. The theme on Monday will be “Shine a Light” on Child Abuse by wearing bright & neon colors; Tuesday “Start Your Morning” preventing child abuse by wearing pajamas; wear your favorite team’s clothing on Wednesday the 17th to “Team Up” Against Child Abuse; and Thursday the 18th, Go Blue Day.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. Prevention services and supports developed by this collaboration can help parents, other caregivers, and communities protect children and strengthen families.
