EASTERN OREGON — Oregonians have until April 30 to register to vote in the upcoming primary election and have until the same date to change their party affiliation.
“People already registered may update their address, but not party, clear up until election day,” said Lisa Feik, Union County Clerk. “They should come into the office to do that, to ensure to get a ballot.”
Current data from the Oregon Secretary of State’s website shows that over 3 million people are already registered to vote in the state.
Of these registered voters, approximately 33% identify as Democrats, 24% as Republicans, and 37% as unaffiliated. The remaining portion is affiliated with various other political groups, such as Libertarian or the Independent Party of Oregon.
It’s important to note that only registered Democrats and Republicans are eligible to vote in partisan races for positions such as Congress, secretary of state, treasurer, attorney general, and other legislative districts.
Feik says people who are already registered should begin receiving voter pamphlets between April 24-26th.
“May 1st is the first day local and in-state ballots will be mailed,” said Feik.
Registration can be completed online, via mail, or by visiting your county elections office.
The election itself is slated for May 21.
