KENNEWICK – Matthew Rowlette, 42, of Kennewick died after being hospitalized in critical condition Sunday. He was rushed to the hospital during an apartment fire in the 400 block of North Arthur Street in Kennewick Sunday evening.
When Kennewick firefighters arrived at Building C of the Tanglewood Apartments they found flames and smoke coming from a second-story apartment. They went up to a second-floor balcony where they learned that Rowlette was still inside the burning apartment. He was unconscious and unresponsive when taken from the building.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The Benton County Coroner’s Office has not determined if there will be an autopsy. Kennewick firefighters were aided at the scene by numerous area agencies including Richland and Pasco as well as Benton County fire districts 1 and 4. There was some smoke damage to the apartment above the fire, and water damage to the apartment below it.
