Another arrest made in connection with John Day murder investigation

JOHN DAY – Another individual has been arrested in connection with the active murder investigation underway in Grant County. On March 12th at approximately 9:45 a.m., Oregon State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office conducted a warrant arrest on Richard Earl States of John Day on the charge of Hindering Prosecution. States is the boyfriend of Mickie Turner, who is the mother of Gary Cavan—the man being held in the murder of Janelle Klaar in John Day.
Sheriff McKinley noted this is still “a very active investigation.” Cavan has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, as well as two counts of Burglary in the First Degree. Cavan’s mother, Mickie Turner, was arrested and charged with Hindering Prosecution. The Sheriff said she has since been released.
