HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council holds a public hearing and vote on an annexation proposal at its regular meeting at 7 p.m. tonight (Monday). The council will also initiate annexation proceedings for another piece of land.
The hearing and vote is for 7.41 acres of land at the southeast corner of East View Drive and Southeast Ninth Street. The petitioner wants to develop the land into a 35-lot subdivision. The property has single-family homes to the west and rural single-family homes to the east. The southern border is the A-Line canal.
The other annexation request is for 12.82 acres of land on the south side of East Elm Avenue and north of East Jennie Avenue, owned by Robert Casteel. Of that property, Casteel will donate 3.5 acres of the land to the city for public works and future park purposes. The total wetlands on the land measure only half an acre, which is smaller than expected. The council will vote on instituting annexation proceedings and amendments to the comprehensive plan map.
The meeting is being held at the Hermiston Community Center. There are seats available for those wearing face coverings. The meeting is also streamed live on Hermiston’s YouTube channel.
