An Evening Under the Stars; You are invited to Shelter From the Storms fundraising Gala

ISLAND CITY – “Providing services to empower survivors in taking a leadership role in their own life,” that is the mission of Shelter From the Storm (SFTS) in Island City.
On September 28, 2024, Shelter From the Storm will be holding their annual Evening Under the Stars Gala. This event is the main fundraising event for Shelter From the Storm to support their ongoing services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
This year’s Gala will be held at the Ascension School Camp and Conference Center in Cove. Doors will open at 5:30pm, with dinner at 6pm.
All proceeds from this event will support SFTS services and survivors.
Recently Elkhorn Media Group (EMG) spoke with Jordan Kaufman, Executive Director at Shelter From the Storm to learn more about the shelter and their services.
(EMG) Can you please tell me about some of the services that Shelter from the Storm Offers?
(SFTS) “Shelter from the Storm provides a variety of services, including emergency shelter, crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling, legal assistance, transitional housing assistance, transportation, clothing, food bank, support groups, and a 24-hour hotline.”
(EMG) Are these services offered to men, women and children?
(SFTS) “We serve women, men, and families. While we don’t provide direct services to children under 16, we support parents who have children. Our services are available to anyone, regardless of gender, race, or how they identify. We believe in supporting anyone affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.”
(EMG) Are your services confidential?
(SFTS) “All of our services are completely confidential. All our advocates are privileged advocates, which means everything shared with us stays confidential. We are committed to ensuring the safety and privacy of those who seek our help.”
(EMG) When Shelter from the Storm holds events such as the Gala, what are those funds used for?
(SFTS) “Funds raised from the gala are crucial for supporting the many services we offer. They help provide shelter, counseling, and legal assistance to those who need it most. Your support allows us to be there for survivors when they need it the most, offering them hope and a path to a safer future.”
(EMG) Do you accept donations?, If yes, what sort of donations are needed?
(SFTS) “Yes, we gladly accept donations. We have a list of items needed on our website and an Amazon Wishlist. Right now, we’re especially in need of toiletries, cleaning supplies, and laundry soap, as well as monetary donations to support our ongoing programs.”
(EMG) How do people get into contact with you if they are in need of services?
(SFTS) “Anyone in need of our services can reach us 24/7 through our hotline at 541-963-9261. They can also contact us via our website or visit our office during business hours for immediate help.”
(EMG) Is there any other information you feel is important that you would like shared about the gala or Shelter from the Storm?
(SFTS) “The gala isn’t just about raising funds—it’s about the community coming together to support those in need. We’re excited to share this night with everyone and to continue making a positive impact together.”
