JOHN DAY – The American Legion District 10 Commander Jim Jerome was recently in KJDY and News102 Studios with the Legion’s Oregon State Commander Corey Brockmann and National Commander Candidate Dan K. Wiley. The men discussed their mission, which is to reduce veterans’ suicides by eliminating certain stigmas associated with seeking mental help.
Their mission is called “Be the One” (to prevent veterans’ suicides), and Commander Jerome reflected on a public walk that took place through John Day to raise awareness:
“Saturday morning, when we started the training day for the conference that we had, we had about 40 members of the Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary that did the walk. It was about a mile-and-an-eighth. We came right by your radio station here Saturday morning. It was well participated. We had people waving at us. We had a lot of interaction that was positive.”
