BOARDMAN – Amazon Web Services and the Arbor Day Foundation are teaming up to plant almost 200 trees in Morrow and Umatilla counties. Working with parks and recreation departments in Boardman, Umatilla, and Hermiston, volunteers will be trained and let loose to plant trees next week.
Eastern Oregon was selected by AWS to be the first to launch the new program that will run from Earth Day to Arbor Day. The goal is to help beautify and reforest parks and roads.
The Arbor Day celebration begins with the kick-off event Monday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at Boardman Marina Park. Welcoming addresses will begin the event. From 9:15-9:30 a.m. there will be a volunteer and safety briefing and a tree-planting demonstration. Planting and community cleanup is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to noon.
There will be two tree-planting events in the city of Umatilla. One is at 7:45 a.m. April 25 in Village Square Park and the second is at 8 a.m. at Hashpark. The tree planting with Hermiston Parks and Recreation is not open to the public.
