HEPPNER – The Morrow County District Attorney’s Office is preparing for a pretrial conference on Aug. 6 in its murder case being brought against Brett Ian Carson, 43, of Irrigon. He is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of Donald Eugene Beal, also of Irrigon earlier this month.
“We’re working on gathering our reports, sending that off to defense counsel, answering her questions, and just getting things written up,” District Attorney Justin Nelson said. “The case is still being investigated. There are still reports being written and interviews being done.”
The shooting occurred at the Oregon Trail RV Park in Irrigon. Nelson said Carson is currently being held on no bail, but that could change.
“Defense counsel has reserved the right for a proof is evident presumption is strong hearing to make sure that we present the facts to keep that ‘no bail’ in place,” he said.
Carson’s attorney is Jody Vaughan of Pendleton.
