Alleged burglar faces felony charges

HERMISTON – Zachariah Dean Vernon, 23, is facing charges for allegedly burglarizing an unoccupied residence and a vehicle on Purdy Lane in Hermiston Saturday. He was identified as the suspect by a nearby resident’s description and an investigation launched by Umatilla County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cody Marcum.

Later that night, Vernon was spotted by a Umatilla police officer in the area of the 1500 block of Sixth Street in that city. Marcum was contacted and arrested Vernon without incident. UCSO Capt. Paul Wolverton said there is no indication of any ongoing concern or threat to the public related to the incident.

Dean is charged with first-degree burglary of a residence, first-degree burglary of another structure, first-degree aggravated theft, and unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of second-degree theft.
