(From the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office.)

On July 6th, 2023 at about 3:16pm Frontier 911 received a report of a brush fire in the area of Highway 19/207 at milepost 81 “Alder Creek”.

Upon the arrival of the first fire units the fire was mostly between the Highway and the John Day River but jumped the river and began to spread quickly.

At the time of this post, 11:49pm, the fire was still very active and is several hundred acres in size. Fire crews will remain on scene overnight.

Oregon Department of Transportation has Highway 19/207 closed between Spray and Service Creek, except for local traffic. If you don’t need to travel in this area please do not.

We will update this post in the morning after we are briefed on the overnight operations.

Stay posted for updates.
