Air Stagnation Advisory issued for Baker, Malheur & Harney counties

BAKER, MALHEUR, & HARNEY COUNTIES – Folks in southeastern Oregon are experiencing long periods of stagnant air this winter. The National Weather Service has issued another Air Stagnation Advisory, in effect through Friday morning of this week. This means areas of fog may stay in place for extended periods; as well as pollutants (like smoke from debris burning) may be trapped near ground-level and cause further complication for those with respiratory problems.

…AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM MST /8 AM

PST/ FRIDAY…

* WHAT…An extended period of stagnant air, with light winds and little vertical mixing. This is due to an inversion near the surface that can trap pollutants.

* WHERE…Portions of south central, southwest, and west central Idaho and northeast and southeast Oregon.

* WHEN…Until 9 AM MST /8 AM PST/ Friday.

* IMPACTS…Poor air quality may cause issues for people with   respiratory problems.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Persons with respiratory illness should follow their physicians advice for dealing with high levels of air pollution during periods of stagnant air.
