ONTARIO — Aiken Elementary School in Ontario recently installed a vending machine for students to use and expand their personal libraries. Ontario School District 8C reports that a ribbon cutting was held, and a few students who demonstrated growth in reading got the chance to be the very first recipients of books from the machine.

Aiken Elementary students get the opportunity to earn book machine tokens by showing academic progress, assisting others, maintaining a positive attitude, and other notable good behavior.

Ontario School District 8C writes, “Board member Matt Stringer and Director of District Improvement Initiatives & Grants Dr. Jodi Elizondo attended the ribbon cutting, assisting students in redeeming their tokens for new books. Dr. Elizondo wrote the School Library Revitalization Grant, which allowed the District to purchase the machine for Aiken students.”

The district was awarded the grant in both 2023 and 2024.
