Harney County-Beginning February 5, 2024, and continuing through April 15, 2024, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is providing tax assistance and preparation on Mondays and Wednesday’s through its Tax-Aide program in Burns, and it’s free. The program has been ongoing in Harney County for over 30 years. The foundation Tax-Aide program is the nation’s largest volunteer-based free tax preparation service. The volunteers are locally trained and IRS certified individuals who understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code.

The tax site is in the Harney Hub, located at 17 S. Alder in Burns. The tax preparation process will entail in-person service. The tax payer will need to be present throughout the entire preparation of the tax return.

Packets are available at the Harney Hub. The packet instructions describe how to make an appointment and what forms and documents the tax payer needs to bring at the time of their appointment. Just a reminder, bring photo ID and social security cards for all individuals listed on the tax return.

The program is open to taxpayers of all ages and income. Membership in AARP is not required. The only thing that might not allow the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide to complete your tax return is the complexity and type of income.
