LA GRANDE – (Information provided by the La Grande Public Works Department)  La Grande Public Works are working on the Second Street (Adams Avenue to Spring Avenue) reconstruction project.  That means crews will close Second Street from Spring Avenue to Washington Avenue, and will remain closed until the work on the roadway has been completed.  The street closure will include the intersections at both Second and Spring Avenue and Second and Main Avenue.  During the project, Spring Avenue (Fourth Street to Second Street) will be open for local access only and carry two-way traffic.

Crews will be performing excavation and removal of curbs, sidewalk sections, and corner ramps with the project area.  Additionally, an aging 18-inch steel water main located with the roadway will be replaced with a ductile iron main.  Following the preparation of the initial two blocks, construction will move to Second Street between Washington Avenue and Adams Avenue.  The entire project will be paved at one time following completion of the preparation work.

Second Street will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project, so plan on alternative routes for your commute for the next few months.  Adams Avenue will remain open during the project.  For concerns or questions contact Public Works at (541) 962-1325.
