ISLAND CITY – Trina Butler has recently accepted the role of Music Teacher at Island City Elementary School.
Trina and her family live in Union, where her four youngest children go to school; her oldest daughter attends La Grande High School to participate in the excellent choir program and musicals. Trina has a bachelor’s degree in psychology with music minor and recently completed her Masters of Art in Teaching from EOU. She has sung in professional opera companies, been a professional accompanist and taught private music lessons for many years.
Trina was inspired to work in education because she has seen the difference caring teachers can make in the life of a child and wanted the opportunity to be a force for good in the lives of children. “I love seeing the light that enters the eyes of a child who has discovered the joy of learning something new.”
Her goal this year is “to provide music education that is coordinated with regular classroom instruction in order to deepen student learning and retention. I would also like to create a fresh learning environment in the ICE music room that encourages active participation and enthusiasm.” She said she is very excited to teach music at such an awesome school, and the teachers, staff and students at Island City Elementary are exceptional!
