HARNEY COUNTY (Released from the Burns District BLM)-A large-scale restoration project is underway in our Burns District as part of a longer-term effort to create healthier landscapes, protect local communities, and strengthen the landโ€™s natural resilience.

This summer, 416 acres in the Horton Mills area are being treated; dense pine thinned, invasive juniper removed, and groundwork laid for future prescribed burns. These actions improve habitat for sage grouse and mule deer, boost water availability, and help reduce the intensity of future wildfires.

Local jobs, local impact-this project also supports the Harney County economy by keeping work close to home and making use of natural materials that might otherwise go to waste.
