ELGIN, OR – Union County Commissioners discussed during their regular meeting this week on a study of the Joseph Branch Trail Consortium. The trail would be along the Union/Wallowa railroad. The trail would be used for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding and possibility stretch 15 miles from Elgin to Looking Glass Creek, according to the study. A grant of $130,000 funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation was awarded to the city of Elgin for a study, if the trail is even feasible.
Union County will not be putting dollars into the project, but hours of service be documented, which could be counted as part of a 12% match Elgin must provide for the grant.
