LA GRANDE – At Wednesday afternoon’s Commission meeting, the Commissioners unanimously voted in favor of moving Union County forward for consideration to be one of three pilot communities for the ROCKit framework plan – it’s a COVID-19 recovery model, aiming to address one of eight project areas (community Resource Organizer for Covid Kit).
The project is in conjunction with the University of Oregon’s Institute for Policy Research and Engagement and X4 Health, with the Chamber named as the project lead. The four-month sprint project is to enable Union County to find problem areas, brought to light or exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and come together as a community to address and solve the identified problem areas. Additionally, it is targeted training so we will be empowered and have access to these tools to continue finding and addressing additional problems.
Umatilla County was the first of three pilot communities to undergo this process, and their County Commissioners were strongly in favor and support – the Umatilla County project website is linked here in case you’re interested. The target areas of focus include: education, public safety, economy, childcare, health, government, infrastructure, and housing/food.
