WALLOWA – (NOTE: The image used for this notice is NOT the actual bear cub that was spotted. The image is an example of a black bear cub originally posted by ODFW and taken by Pat Matthews)
The Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office reports that a bear cub was spotted near the Wallowa School campus earlier this week. While bear cubs may seem cute, and even approachable, they are still wild animals. Further, even if a cub seems alone, their mothers could be close by and will be very protective.
WCSO Reminds residents to always keep their distance from cubs, and do not attempt to approach, feed, or interact with the animals. Likewise, pets should be kept from getting close to bear cubs. Longterm, residents are reminded to not leave out food, trash, or low bird feeders that could be easily accessed by bears.
Anyone who sees the particular bear cub, or any other bears, in or near Wallowa city limits is asked to report it to the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office at 541-426-3131.
