Grant County Victim’s Assistance and Heart of Grant County discuss domestic violence

JOHN DAY – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Representatives from both Grant County Victim’s Assistance and Heart of Grant County appeared on KJDY’s Coffee Time to discuss domestic violence in-depth.

Grant County Victim’s Assistance Director Dorothy Blood addressed some of the common barriers preventing someone from leaving an abusive relationship:

“Having kids really complicates things…lack of resources…where to go…lack of finances…if a victim is like a stay-at-home mom, [it can be] difficult to know what to do and where to go. Domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness in women with children. About 80% of homeless women with children have reported that they are victims of domestic violence.”

The Heart of Grant County 24/7 hotline is available for anyone with questions about what to do or how to deal with an abusive domestic situation. Call (541) 620-1342.
