President Pat McDonald stated that more than 460 pounds of food was collected by the Elgin Lions in a one-day effort for the local food bank. McDonald was pleased with the balance of foods donated.

The Lions also assisted distributing the home coming meal, which was described by McDonald as a smooth operation. Jared Rogers commented that several members now know wha a “walking taco” is made of for ingredients.

Free pie and ice cream is planned for the 17th to honor the community for their support. McDonald stated that the Corner Market is donating the ice cream for the event.

Chair Doreen Baker said she had received several requests for the Lions to resume BINGO activities, and the group selected October 14th.  BINGO is held at the Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Lion Duck Train, filled with young riders, drew applause from spectators during the Homecoming Parade. The train also participated in CASA activities, Christian Life Center Activities, Weston parade, and Grande Ronde Hospital Fun Days.  Members of CASA expressed appreciation to the club by serving cake to its members.

It took less than an hour visually screening students from the Imbler School. Screening Elgin students is scheduled October 14th.

The Elgin Lions will also be active during Halloween, giving out over $300 of Candi to the spooks on main street’s “Trunk or Treat.”
