La Grande’s next community tree planning is coming up October 10

LA GRANDE – La Grande hasn’t been named a Tree City USA for 36 consecutive years for nothing. The dedication of both Parks and Recreation staff and local volunteers help keep the city’s neighborhoods green and its urban forest continually expanding. For anyone with a green thumb looking to bring in even more trees, La Grande’s annual Fall Community Tree Planting is coming up on Saturday October 10.
The planting will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon, with volunteers meeting at the Parks and Rec offices, 2402 Cedar St. in Pioneer Park by the basketball courts. Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and bring water bottles. Some gloves and tools will be provided. Parks and Rec will give a demonstration on proper tree planting before splitting volunteers into groups to plant around town. The event will conclude at Pioneer Park.
