Rider injured in Wagon Rut Scramble held at Baker County’s Virtue Flat

BAKER COUNTY — UPDATE (9/23/26) – According to a race referee, the rider is “…in good health and doing well. He was transported to the hospital and found to have a concussion. He was home with his family that evening.”

PREVIOUS – A rider in the Southwest Idaho Desert Racing Association’s Wagon Rut Scramble was injured at the race held at Virtue Flat in Baker County. A release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office states the rider was seriously injured and transported to the hospital, thanks to local Search and Rescue members.

Baker County Search and Rescue assisted the Southwest Idaho Desert Racing Association (SIDRA) with their Wagon Rut Scramble at Virtue Flat. This was an intense, fast-paced weekend of racing for riders and spectators alike!
SAR members were staged with Pioneer Ambulance Baker City Or with the primary responsibility of recovering injured riders and transporting medics to those riders.
A rider was involved in a crash and sustained serious injuries. SAR members and medics located the patient, assessed his injuries and loaded him in a side-by-side equipped for patient transport to rendezvous with the ambulance on Highway 86.
