WASCO COUNTY — Two drivers were killed Monday night after a semi-truck carrying a 53-foot freight container lost control and collided head-on with an SUV on Highway 26 in Wasco County, state police said.
Oregon State Police reported that Dagoberto Moreno-Prada, 31, of Eugene, was driving eastbound around 9:16 p.m. when his Volvo semi-truck rolled while navigating a corner and slid into the westbound lane.
A westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by J Natividad Martinez-Colin, 35, of Vancouver, Washington, struck the semi-truck head-on. The impact dislodged the shipping container, sending both it and the Jeep through a guardrail.
Both Moreno-Prada and Martinez-Colin were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash closed the highway for about eight hours near milepost 74 for cleanup.
