Burn ban lifted in and outside Ontario city limits

ONTARIO — The burn ban has been lifted both within the City of Ontario, as well as within the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District. That announcement came yesterday from Ontario Fire Chief Clint Benson. Controlled burning in both jurisdictions requires a burn permit in accordance with Section 307 of the Oregon Fire Code. BURN BAN LIFTED

In accordance with the Ontario, Oregon Code of Ordinances, Title 5, Chapter 3, Section 3(H):

Effective September 17, 2026, the burn ban has been lifted.

Controlled burning within the Ontario city limits requires a burn permit in accordance with Section 307 of the Oregon Fire Code. Open burn permits cost $25 for a seven-day period and burn barrel permits are $35 for the calendar year (except for burn ban periods), both can be obtained by calling Ontario Fire and Rescue at 541-881-3216. An inspection is required prior to burning to ensure the following conditions are met:

• Fire location is away from buildings and other exposures
• All materials are organic in nature (no garbage, plastics, rubber, etc.)
• Burning will not create a public nuisance
• The fire will be continuously attended
• A water source is on site
• All fires will be extinguished before dark
• No burning when temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit and winds exceed 15 miles per hour
