Dayton man killed, 2 juveniles injured in US 12 crash near Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA — A 27-year-old Dayton man died Tuesday morning after his car crossed the centerline of U.S. Highway 12 and collided with a semi-truck trailer just east of Walla Walla, authorities said.
Daniel A. Boggs was pronounced dead at the scene following the two-vehicle crash, which occurred around 7:03 a.m. near milepost 342.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Boggs was driving a gray 2015 Chevrolet Cruze westbound when his vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and struck the trailer of an oncoming 2020 Peterbilt semi-truck.
Two juvenile passengers in Boggs’ car were injured in the crash. Both were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment. WSP noted that while both children were wearing seatbelts, they were not in proper child restraints.
The driver of the semi-truck, Kevin R. Lewis, 67, of Milton-Freewater was uninjured.
Boggs’ car was totaled and towed from the scene. The semi-truck sustained non-reportable damage and was driven away, while its trailer was removed by a private party.
Whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision remains unknown. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
