Union County’s Megan Browne honored as ODAA Crime Victim Advocate of the Year (Rural)

LA GRANDE – (Press release from the Oregon District’ Attorney’s Association) The Oregon District Attorneys Association (ODAA) and the Union County District Attorney’s Office today announced that Victim Advocate Megan Browne has received the 2026 ODAA Crime Victim Advocate (Rural) Award, honoring a crime victim advocate serving a rural Oregon county who has shown exemplary commitment to supporting victims.
Browne has been with her office for 13 years and is described in her nomination as a vital part of the team, demonstrating consistent dedication to supporting victims and families.
She is regularly in the field, meeting victims at hospitals, shelters and in their homes, and was among the first to volunteer to travel to Roseburg in the aftermath of the Umpqua Community College shooting, where she spent countless hours supporting the family she was assigned to.
A survivor who provided a statement for Browne’s nomination described her compassion, patience and understanding as something they will never forget, crediting her support with helping them get through one of the hardest experiences of their life.
“Megan will drop everything for someone in crisis,” said the Union County District Attorney Kelsie McDaniel. “Her impact on survivors across our county is immeasurable.”
