ODFW opens all northeast Oregon Access and Habitat areas Saturday

SALEM – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is opening all northeast Oregon Access and Habitat (A&H) areas tomorrow (Saturday). These private land access areas had been closed due to wildfires.
Also, the Upland Cooperative Access Program (UCAP) will open as well. It provides public hunting for upland game birds in Morrow, Gilliam, Sherman, and Wasco counties in the Columbia Basin.
Conditions have improved in the region and the long-term forecast indicates cooler temperatures and higher humidity will continue to reduce fire activity. However, that doesn’t mean fire danger is gone. It remains elevated in many areas.
Hunters should continue to use caution. Check local fire restrictions and current fire danger levels before heading out. Also, remember to carry firefighting equipment including a shovel and adequate water. Review ODFW’s guidance on hunting during fire season as well.
The A&H areas that are opening include M.R. King Ranches in Durkee, Troy Ranches southeast of Baker City, Bear Creek near Lostine, Carman Ranch in Wallowa County, and the Heppner Regulated Hunt Area.
