Firefighters respond to ammonia leak at Weston food processing plant

WESTON — East Umatilla Fire and Rescue responded to an ammonia leak Tuesday evening at the Lakeside Foods facility in Weston.

Crews were dispatched to the plant at 7:17 p.m. and identified a leak involving a high-pressure vapor line within the facility’s ammonia refrigeration system.

On-site personnel successfully contained the leak. Firefighters then conducted a search of the affected building to ensure all workers were accounted for and to locate anyone who may have been exposed.

Several employees were evaluated at the scene for potential ammonia exposure. No further details were released.
