LA GRANDE – The next La Grande Community blood draw is less than a month away. Linda and Sheldon Strand, La Grande’s Community Blood Draw Coordinators, announced the first fall drive is set for Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday September 16. As always, the drive will run from noon to 6:00 p.m. on the first day and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the second day and will be hosted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1802 Gekeler Lane.
All blood types are needed, and even a single unit can help save a life amidst an ongoing national blood shortage. As written by Sheldon Strand in the recent announcement:
“Whether you donate whole blood or red blood cells through the “Power Red” process
we are asking donors to make an extra effort to attend this blood draw in order to meet a nationwide shortage of blood. Donors with blood types A-, B-, O+, and O- are eligible to make “Power Red” blood donations.
This is a process that separates red blood cells from the plasma and re-infuses the plasma into the donor’s body. Red Cross is providing a full complement of 6 machines to accommodate the expected number of these donors.”
Appointments can be scheduled by visiting https://www.redcrossblood.org/ and searching La Grande’s area code, 97850, or by contacting Linda Strand at 541-910-1973.
