Size: Coleman: 308,721 acres, 90% contained
Second Flat: 105,501 acres, 90% contained
Bald Mountain: 76,443 acres, 93% contained
Jackass Butte: 24,724 acres, 92% contained
SUMMARY: The Southern Area Gray Incident Management Team 2 assumed command today of the Burns Basin area: Bald Mountain, Coleman Creek, Jackass Butte and Second Flat.
COLEMAN CREEK FIRE: The primary focus continues to be on suppression repairs with significant
progress made yesterday. Crews will work on the western side of the fire perimeter to repair dozer lines.
SECOND FLAT FIRE: Suppression repairs and rehabilitation efforts are still ongoing on the northwestern
perimeter of the fire, including reestablishing a section of control line previously covered up by debris.
BALD MOUNTAIN FIRE: Resources are being shifted from the Jackass Butte fire to address suppression
repair in this fire’s footprint, along with a robust repair plan being prepared.
JACKASS BUTTE FIRE: Suppression repair is nearing completion. There is continued use of sprinklers
within peat moss meadows in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge to reduce heat within the duff layers.
WEATHER: Thursday starts a cooling and moistening trend. Deeper monsoonal moisture arrives Thursday into Friday, bringing the risk of isolated showers and thunderstorms.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect from Thursday afternoon into Friday morning due to the risk of dry lightning strikes and erratic wind gusts up to 40 mph.
