Coleman Creek, Second Flat, Bald Mountain and Jackass Butte Fire updates as of August 12, 2026

COLEMAN CREEK FIRE: Primary focus for fire crews continues to be on fire suppression repairs. There have been no new smoke reports and no increased fire behavior.

SECOND FLAT FIRE: Minimal heat is still being detected within the fire area through inferred observations. These areas are being identified and extinguished by crews. These do not pose a threat to containment lines. Suppression repairs and rehabilitation efforts are still ongoing.

BALD MOUNTAIN FIRE: IR flights have identified some smaller areas with heat within the fire line. Crews are going in to look at these areas and carrying out mop up tasks. These do not pose a threat to containment lines. Suppression repairs and rehabilitation efforts are still ongoing.

JACKASS BUTTE FIRE: Crews are carrying out mop up efforts along Frenchglen Highway on the East side of the fire area. A sprinkler system has been implemented within the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge peat moss meadows to help reduce heat within the duff layers. Reduced smoke has been observed from these efforts.

WEATHER: Wednesday through the end of the week will feature a continuation of the cooling and moistening trend, bringing improved temperatures, higher afternoon relative humidity, and better overnight moisture recovery. Winds will remain on the breezy side, with gusts reaching near 20-22 mph each afternoon.

EVACUATIONS: There are no active evacuation orders for Bald Mountain fire, Coleman Creek fire, Jackass Butte fire, and Second Flat fire. Up to date evacuation information can be found: Genasys Protect.
