DURKEE — Firefighters from multiple agencies were called to the report of a fire at Ash Grove cement plant out of Durkee on Tuesday evening. The Baker City Fire Department was one of the responding agencies. After speaking with some of the crew members who were at the scene, Chief Michael Carlson relayed to our newsroom that, “The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire rather quickly.”
The Chief stated the preliminary damage assessment included the loss of a kiln and some electrical equipment. No chemical release was detected.
There were no injuries reported, and the fire remains under investigation.
Keating Rural Fire District, Baker Rural Fire District, North Powder Rural Fire Protection District, Durkee RFPA, and Baker County Emergency Management also responded to the incident.
