Local control restored over Hay Creek Complex as fires near full containment

CONDON – With four of its five fires 100 percent contained and the Little Buck Fire at 89 percent containment, control of the Hay Creek Complex has been shifted back to local authorities as the incident management team wraps up its work.

In the final update, officials said point protection of structures will continue in and near the perimeter of the Little Buck Fire. Full containment has been achieved in the Hoag, Hopkin, Porcupine, and Cottonwood fires, and those areas will continue to be monitored and patrolled.

All evacuation orders in the Hay Creek Complex have been lifted. Firefighters are still working along Oregon Highway 218, and officials ask travelers to slow down and use caution in that area.

The Hay Creek Complex consisted of fires across Gilliam, Sherman, and Wasco counties burning about 200,000 acres. At one point, the Little Buck Fire led to the evacuation of both Antelope and Shaniko, along with the closure of Highway 218.
