La Grande residents can view an inventory of the city’s current street trees…all of them

LA GRANDE – A municipality does not simply maintain Tree City USA status for decades on end without being a little bit obsessed with trees and greenery. The City of La Grande is a living example of this.
For those unfamiliar, La Grande’s Urban Forestry Department maintains an online tree inventory system. This isn’t just a catalog with fun facts about the various species present in the city, but an interactive map providing information on most of the city’s individual street trees. As written by Parks and Rec in a recent post:
“La Grande Urban Forestry maintains an inventory of public street trees (trees in the right-of-way). We use this inventory to assess multiple aspects of the urban forest, including but not limited to, health, general age, species diversity, and more.”
The data collected here provides an overview of the health, status, and general statistics of La Grande’s trees. The inventory is updated regularly, with volunteers clad in the iconic green vest taking to the streets to collect information.
