Eggo Fire nears 4,000 acres on Zumwalt Prairie

ENTERPRISE – Another wildfire flared up in Wallowa County on Saturday just east of the Burnt Creek Fire, growing rapidly in high winds.
County officials reported the Eggo Fire on the Zumwalt Prairie, west of Greenwood Butte, was last reported at 3,774 acres with 5% containment.
Multiple agencies and local residents responded to the blaze during an already active fire season. First responders used firefighting equipment alongside ATVs and horses, while aviation resources were brought in to help.
The Wallowa County Road Department deployed a water truck and bulldozer to assist with suppression operations, and nearby roads were closed for public safety.
Volunteers also worked to remove livestock from threatened areas, removing fencing as needed.
“County officials extend their sincere appreciation to every firefighter, agency representative, heavy equipment operator, rancher, farmer, volunteer, and community member who answered the call,” county officials said in a statement. “Their quick action and cooperation helped prevent what could have become a much larger and more destructive incident.”
