UPDATE: Crews remove sunken vessel at Richland’s Columbia Point Marina

UPDATE: As of 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the vessel has been successfully removed from the water and loaded onto a trailer.

“During the recovery, a minimal amount of fuel and oil was released,” Richland Communications and Marketing Manager Hollie Alexander confirmed. “The contractor, Clean Harbors, immediately contained and cleaned up the release, and there were no impacts beyond the immediate recovery area.”

RICHLAND, Washington — Officials are working to recover a fully submerged boat that sank Sunday afternoon at Columbia Point Marina near the Lu Lu Craft Bar and Kitchen Restaurant.

Washington State Department of Ecology’s Spills Prevention, Preparedness and Response Communications Manager Anna Izenman tells Elkhorn Media Group that the privately owned vessel remains stable, and no environmental impacts have been observed. The cause of the sinking remains under investigation.

“The vessel model is a Tige 23RZX,” Izenmen explained Monday afternoon. “It has a maximum capacity of 65 gallons of gasoline, but the current amount onboard is unknown and no sheen has been observed, which means that there is not an active leak of oil into the water.”

Richland Parks and Recreation department staff and state ecology responders are collaborating with the vessel’s owner, insurance representatives, and contractors to safely remove the boat from the water.

City officials advise the public to avoid the dock closest to the restaurant, noting that portions of the dock and surrounding marina areas may be restricted during recovery operations. Visitors are urged to follow all posted safety signs and crew directions.
