HARNEY COUNTY-Egypt Fire

The cooperative nature and effort of firefighting resources and personnel on the Egypt fire has led to resilient containment and control lines. Firefighters remain diligent and deliberate in suppression efforts in light of forecasted weather over the next 12-24 hours as a Red Flag Warning stays in effect until 8:00 p.m. Along the western to northern edge dozer and hand crews continue to reinforce and strengthen the perimeter lines while hand crews and saw teams have mopped up areas of heat 75-100 feet inside the perimeter of the fire with the goal of 100-150 feet. The containment line on the 4130 Road and up the 41 Road continues to be strengthened and reinforced by fire crews cooling hotspots 200-250 feet from control lines. Crews today will focus on extinguishing any hotspots that may have rekindled as a result of recent and current weather conditions. Containment is anticipated to increase tomorrow.
Stone Creek Fire

Hose lines remain in place around the perimeter of the Stone Creek Fire allowing firefighters to efficiently mop-up hotspots and any potential rekindling. Crews strategically mop-up and patrol containment lines around the fire perimeter. The hard work from firefighters is paying off as containment on the Stone Creek fire continues to improve.
Weather: Today a Red Flag Warning is in effect in the areas of both fires. Criteria for today’s warning is related to low relative humidity, high temperatures, increased wind, and clear sunny skies. Temperature will be in the upper 80’s to low-90’s with minimum relative humidity of 9-14%. Winds are out of the Southwest from 7-12mph. The Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 11 AM to 8PM today.
Closures and Safety: The FSR 41 Road Closure is in place. The public is asked to avoid the fire closure area for everyone’s safety and to facilitate firefighting efforts. There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the fire area. Unauthorized drone activity is prohibited under this TFR, as firefighting helicopters and aircraft cannot fly when drones are present.
The Oregon Department of Forestry,(ODF) Central Oregon District, Fire Season – Public Use Restrictions (PURs), Regulated Use Closures (RUCs) are currently in effect.
Effective 12:01 a.m., Thursday, July 23, the North Zone (Blue Mountain and Prairie City Ranger Districts) and the South Zone (Emigrant Creek Ranger District) of the Malheur National Forest implemented Stage C of Public Use Restrictions (PURs) and Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) III. This change is due to increasing temperatures and drier fuels in the forest. Both Zones will also move to EXTREME fire danger.
