Man wanted in abduction surrenders to Washington authorities

KENNEWICK — A man wanted for kidnapping, assault, and threats to kill surrendered to authorities Tuesday following a weekend search that triggered an AMBER Alert.

Matthew Susmilch, 41, turned himself in at a Washington State Department of Corrections field office in the Tri-Cities area, according to DOC Deputy Communications Manager Rachel Ericson.

Susmilch became the focus of a multi-agency task force search over the weekend after his 4-year-old daughter was abducted. Authorities recovered the child safely Sunday morning in Pasco, though Susmilch remained at large until surrendering today (Tuesday).

Susmilch is now in custody.
